Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State had five wrestlers travel to Pella, Iowa to compete at the Central Under Armour Invitational, leaving with two first place finishes and two third place finishes.
In the Gold Bracket, senior
Isaiah Mlsna led the team at 149-lb., going 4-0 on the day. Mlsna started with a decision win to make it into the quarterfinals, followed by a fall at 4:36 and a 13-4 major decision win to compete in the championship round. Facing Karson Casper, Augsburg, for first place, Mlsna came away with the close 7-5 decision win.
Also competing in the Gold Bracket was redshirt-sophomore
Kain Sanders, placing third at 149-lb. Sanders made it to the semifinals with a fall at 2:40 in his first match of the day, along with a 10-1 major decision win in the quarterfinals. In the third place match, Sanders beat Tyler Fouts, Briar Cliff) by fall at 5:20 in the third period.
At 165-lb., freshman
Kaleb Lochner placed first in the Silver Bracket, also going 4-0 at the invite. Lochner had a strong start with a 19-4 tech fall in the first round and a 7-2 decision win in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal match, Lochner beat Chase Greiner (Central College) by fall at 4:00, and finished the day with a win over Kaleb Cordova (Unattached GV) by a 7-2 decision to take home first place.
Freshman
Cael Morrow wrestled at 125-lb. in the silver bracket, placing third. Morrow won by fall at 1:10 in the first round and by 15-0 tech fall in the semis. In the third place match, Morrow bested Grady Romshek (Benedictine College) at 0:41.
The Mavericks turn around and continue their NSIC dual schedule tomorrow, Sunday Jan. 5
th in Bismarck, N.D. against UMary. The dual will begin at 5 p.m.
