MARSHALL, Minn. – Minnesota State traveled to Marshall, MN tonight to face conference opponent, SMSU, ending in a 37-4 win for the Mavericks.

Freshman
Jacob Fitzpatrick kicked off the dual at 125-lb. with a 24-7 tech fall win. Fitzpatrick scored three takedowns in the first period, two in the second, and ending with a point for stalling, a takedown, and riding time to put the Mavericks up 5-0 in the team race.

At 133-lb., redshirt-sophomore
Chase Beckett faced SMSU's Chase Hanson. Beckett had two takedowns, catching Hanson in the second and winning by fall at 3:27 in the second period.

Up next, freshman
Colton Hush wrestled at 141-lb., scoring a takedown and 4-pt nearfall to start the match. After an escape in the second, Hush found another two takedowns to lead 14-1 halfway through the second. SMSU's Dylan Louwagie managed a takedown and a nearfall in the third, with the match ending in a 15-8 win for Hush.

Senior
Isaiah Mlsna wrestled at 149-lb., finding a takedown in the first to lead the match. After being let up to start the third, Mlsna was awarded riding time to win by a 5-1 decision, bringing the team score to 17-0 MSU.

At 157-lb., junior
Caleb Meunier was on the mat next, up against SMSU's senior Sean Howk. After no scoring in the first, Meunier chose down to start the second and found an escape to put points on the board. In the third, Howk also gained an escape, tying the match 1-1. The match went into overtime, with Meunier getting the escape to win by a 4-1 sudden victory decision.

No. 15 junior
Kole Marko wrestled redshirt-freshman Caden Young at 165-lb. Marko scored two takedowns in the first two periods to lead 7-1 going into the third period. To finish out the match, Marko gained a final takedown and riding time to win by an 11-2 major decision.

In the 174-lb. match between MSU's No. 14
Drake Hayward and SMSU's Elijah Sterner, Hayward was first on the board with a takedown in the first period. Sterner chose down and found an escape to start the second period, ending with a score of 4-3 MSU at the end of the second period. In the third, Hayward gained an escape to win the match by a 5-4 decision.

Evan Farley was up next at 184-lb. Farley scored three takedowns throughout the match to win by a 13-5 major decision, bringing the team score to 31-0 MSU.

 SMSU scored their only team points of the night with a major decision win at 197-lb.

At 285-lb., SMSU was open and forfeited to freshman
Callen Smithpeter, ending the dual at 37-4 MSU.

Bryce Andrews on tonight's dominant performance, "Tonight, we got back to our style by consistently putting points on the board. Attacking from start to finish is what we've been working on, and it showed. If we maintain this mindset, we'll be in great shape as we approach the postseason."

With this win, the Mavericks advance to a 7-3 overall record, 4-2 NSIC record. Minnesota State is back at home on Saturday, Feb. 8
th at 4 p.m. against Augustana to continue their conference dual season.
