Mankato, Minn. – Six Mavericks traveled to Palatine, Ill. this weekend to compete at the Harper Open, finishing with five top-five finishes.
 
Placing first at 184-lb. was sophomore Grant Cook. After a bye to start the day, Cook won by a 20-3 tech fall in the quarterfinals and fall at 1:48 to make it to the championship match. Cook faced Henry Ford College's Christian Byrne, winning by 5-2 decision to take first.
 
Freshman Callen Smithpeter took second at 285-lb., tallying two tech fall wins for the day.
 
Redshirt-freshman Cole Sykora (133-lb.) and freshman Jesus Gonzalez (197-lb.) both placed third, with redshirt-freshman Makota Misgen (285-lb.) placing fourth.
 
The Mavericks return to their dual schedule on Thursday, Jan. 30^th against UW-Parkside. The dual starts at 7 p.m. in the Taylor Center.
