ST. PETER, Minn. - Chiara Carnelutti dropped just two combined games in singles and doubles to cap Senior Day at Swanson Tennis Center for Minnesota State in a 7-0 route of Bemidji State Saturday. Carnelutti teamed with Daria Podmogilnaia for a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. The Mavericks then swept singles, including a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 by Freia Lawrence and a 6-2, 6-0 performance at No. 2 from Carnelutti.

The Mavericks (9-6, 7-2) finished the regular season 3-1 on their home courts and compete next in the NSIC Quarterfinals on April 26 at Heuther Tennis Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

"It was a very solid weekend for us and no better way to send out our lone senior," said head coach Tristen Bryant-Otake. "We took care of business and had fun doing it. Ending the regular season at home is amazing for us and hopefully we can carry this momentum into the conference tournament. Chiara has been tremendous for our program in the two years she has been with us. She has been a leader, a great teammate and someone other players could look up to. I cannot thank her enough for all she has given to MSU."

Brynn Psooy collected her first singles victory of the season at No. 6 while McKenna DeMarce picked her second win playing at No. 5. The Beavers (1-8, 0-7 NSIC) play at UMary next on April 12.

The Mavericks are currently third in the NSIC standings among 10 teams, behind Augustana (11-3, 5-0) and UMary (5-4, 4-0), and await other results to find out who they will play in the NSIC Tournament. Bryant-Otake is in her first season as head coach.

MSU finished the 2022-23 season 15-2 overall, including 10-1 in conference play. The team defeated Southwest Minnesota State and UMary in the postseason before falling in the conference championship to Augustana 4-0. 

Carnelutti finished the regular season 4-4 at No. 1 singles and 2-2 at No. 2 while posting a 7-5 doubles record. The Mavericks are 53-34 (.609) in singles competition and 25-18 (.581) in doubles play.
