Fayette, Iowa – The Upper Iowa Peacocks bested the Mavericks in today's dual at UIU, finishing with a team score of 24-13 at Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.
 
The dual started at 125 pounds, with the Peacocks picking up a win by fall and another by a 12-6 decision.
 
At 141 pounds, junior Trayton Anderson faced the Peacocks No. 5 Tate Murty, ending in a 6-4 decision loss for Anderson.
 
In a tense battle at 149 pounds, junior Isaiah Mlsna found the win over UIU. Mlsna found a takedown late in the third period to tie the match 6-6, got a 4-point nearfall, and finished receiving a point of riding time, to win by decision 11-6.
 
Upper Iowa won the next two matches, the Peacocks' No. 8 Eric Faught beating the Mavericks' sophomore Caleb Meunier by a 15-5 major decision, while at 165 pounds, MSU's sophomore Kole Marko lost to No. 2 Chase Luensman, of UIU, by a major decision of 12-2.
 
Junior Drake Hayward had MSU's next win at 174 pounds by 7-2 decision, bringing the team race to 21-6.
 
At 184 pounds, the Mavericks' Gavin Christoffersen was tied 1-1 at the end of the third with UIU. With no scoring in the first overtime, both wrestlers found escapes in their respective periods, with UIU having eight seconds of riding time at the end of the third overtime, giving UIU the victory 3-2.
 
The next two wins were by Maverick wrestlers. Senior Shane Gibson found a 4-3 decision win, followed by redshirt-freshman Tanner Gaffey beating UIU in a 13-1 major decision.
 
The Mavericks (5-4, 2-3 NSIC) stay on the road for next weekend's dual against Augustana, facing the Vikings in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday, Feb. 10^th at 2:00 p.m.
