What Lies Ahead: Minnesota State is back at home this weekend, hosting University of Sioux Falls on Friday, Feb. 16th and Northern State on Saturday, Feb. 17th, both duals with start at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Mavericks will recognize the senior members of the team, as well as hosting youth night, with fans 18 and younger receiving free admission.
About University of Sioux Falls: The Cougars are 2-10 in overall duals, with a 0-7 NSIC dual record. Matt Meuleners, head coach of Sioux Falls, is in his first year at Sioux Falls, previously at California State University-Bakersfield as the head assistant wrestling coach.
About Northern State: The Wolves hold a 2-5 conference record and 7-12 overall record, with their two conference wins over Sioux Falls (42-6) and MSU Moorhead (31-6). Northern State also has two ranked wrestlers, No. 2 Wyatt Turnquist at 149 pounds, and No. 4 Devin Bahr at 157 pounds.
Last Time Out: The Mavericks were on the mat outside of Minnesota last weekend, traveling to No. 14 Augustana, resulting in a 15-28 loss. Senior Gavin Christoffersen had the Mavericks' only fall of the night, pinning Augie's Danny Reynolds at 2:43. Other Mavericks with decision wins were sophomore Kole Marko, junior Drake Hayward, and redshirt-freshman Tanner Gaffey.
The Makovsky File: In his 31st year with Minnesota State, head coach Jim Makovsky holds an impressive 306-139-3 career record, the most in program history. Makovsky has coached 12 Individual National Champions, 96 NCAA All-Americans, and has been inducted into the NCAA DII Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame.

National Appearances: Minnesota State made an appearance on the podium in the 2022-23 season with senior Darrell Mason, at 285 lb., finishing third. Mason held a 17-4 record, became a two-time NCAA All-American, and earned the Minnesota State Senior Male Athlete of the Year Honor. Mason was also the national champion at 285 lb. his junior year with a perfect 22-0 record.
