#7 Minnesota State to Host Wayne State in First Round of NSIC Tournament

MANKATO, Minn. -- No. 7 Minnesota State (12-1-5, 11-0-3 NSIC) will host Wayne State (7-6-5, 6-4-4 NSIC) on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Pitch in the first round of the NSIC Tournament.

Minnesota State is riding high after back-to-back shutout wins last weekend, defeating Bemidji State 3-0 and Minnesota Crookston 4-0. The Mavericks lead the NSIC with 40 goals this season, showcasing a potent offense and a solid defense.

Sophomore Maddix Archer is one of the league's top scorers, netting eight goals this season, ranking her second in the NSIC.

MSU leads all of Division II in goals against average with .222%.

Between the posts, junior Clare Longueville boasts the second-best save percentage in Division II at .930

Facing Wayne State:
Heading into the first round of the NSIC Tournament, Wayne State finished its regular season with a (7-6-5, 6-4-4 NSIC) record. The Wildcats and Mavericks faced each other back on Oct. 20th, which ended in a 0-0 tie.

Scouting the Wildcats:
WSC finished its regular season with a 1-0 win at home against Winona State this past Thursday. Leading Wayne State's attack with seven goals and one assist, Alaina Sorensen is right behind Archer in the NSIC scoring ranks and will be a key player to watch.

What's Ahead:
The winner of the match between Minnesota State and Wayne State will face the winner of the match between St. Cloud State and UMary. Should the Mavericks defeat the Wildcats, they will host the semifinals and finals of the NSIC Tournament at The Pitch. The semifinal matches will be played on Friday, with the championship match following on Sunday.
