MANKATO, Minn. – Sophomore Lucas Ryan placed second at the Coe College Invite, leading the young squad that traveled down to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
 
At 133-lbs., Ryan went 3-1 on the day, winning his first two round by fall in the first period, and winning the semifinal match by a close 9-8 decision. In the championship match, Ryan fell to Bryce Parke (Coe College) (TF 15-0).
 
Also placing at the Invite was 197-lb. Derrick Steinke, taking fourth with a record of 3-2. Sophomore Brian Thilges (197-lb.) and freshman Callen Smithpeter (285-lb.) placed fifth. Thilges highlighted a 22-3 tech fall win in the quarterfinal round. With a record of 5-1 for the day, Smithpeter notched a 19-4 tech fall win in the second consolation round, followed by a fall by win at 6:49 in the third consolation round.
 
Freshmen Colton Hush and Connor Crumer also traveled to and competed at the Coe College Invite today.
 
The Mavericks start their dual season at home against Upper Iowa on Sunday, December 8^th. The dual will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Taylor Center.
