Mavericks Host St. Cloud State in NCAA Tournament First Round

MANKATO, Minn – Minnesota State (14-1-6, 11-0-3) earned the number two seed in the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament, revealed Monday (November 18) as part of the Division II Women's Soccer Selection Show. 
 
As the number two seed, MSU will host the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, which includes both first round and second round games this week.
 
The Mavericks begin against No. 7 seed St. Cloud State (11-3-5, 8-1-5) Friday, November 22 at 1 p.m. Minnesota State also hosts No. 3 seed Missouri Western versus No. 6 seed Concordia-St. Paul Friday at 10 a.m. at The Pitch. The winners play in the second round Sunday at 1 p.m. at The Pitch.
 
Region champions advance to the third and quarterfinal-rounds of competition to be played Sunday December 1 and Saturday December 7. 
 
The Division II semifinals and championship games are set for December 13-14 at Sportsplex at Matthews in Matthes, North Carolina, hosted by Wingate University.
 
MSU's history against the Huskies dates to 1995 and the Mavericks lead the all-time series 27-7-4. The most recent matchup against St. Cloud State was on October 6th and the teams tied 1-1 in St. Cloud. 
 
The last time MSU hosted first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament was in 2019. That year the Mavericks made a run to the Elite Eight, where they fell to Grand Valley State University.
 
The Division II National Championship has been held annually since 1988. Minnesota State has qualified in each of the past 15 tournaments and is 11-14-6. Last fall, the Mavericks were eliminated in the first round against Central Missouri. 
 
The No. 7 nationally ranked Mavericks defeated Minot State 2-0 on Sunday to win the NSIC Tournament Championship.
