VANCOUVER, B.C. – Former Minnesota State center Teddy Blueger (Riga, Latvia) has been named to the opening night roster for the Vancouver Canucks. Blueger is in his eighth season in the National Hockey League.
 
As a member of the Mavericks, Blueger skated in 155 games over four seasons, with 31 goals, 77 assists and 108 points from 2012-16. An alternate captain as a senior, he was named the team's most valuable player and his career point total stood for 10^th on the MSU all-time scoring chart when he departed the program.
 
Blueger made his NHL debut as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins on January 30, 2019. He was selected by Pittsburgh in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft (129^th overall) and played parts of four seasons for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL).
 
Blueger joined former Maverick Ryan Carter (2004-06) as the second former Maverick to win the Stanley Cup, when he was a member of the Vegas Golden Knights in 2022-23.
 
He has played 336 games in the NHL since 2018-19 with 41 goals, 85 assists and 126 points, along with two playoff goals and four playoff assists. Last season, Blueger appeared in 68 regular season and 13 postseason games for the Canucks and recorded six goals and 24 assists.
 
The Vancouver Canucks begin the regular season Wednesday (Oct. 9) when they host Calgary Flames at 9 p.m.
