Mavericks Pick Up Dual Wins over St. Thomas and Concordia-St. Paul

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's swimming and diving team won five events Saturday as it bested both St. Thomas and Concordia-St. Paul.

The Mavericks defeated St. Thomas 188-112 and Concordia-St. Paul by the score 205-92. UST bested CSP 177-119 as well. MSU now owns an 8-1 dual record on the season.

"The team looked great today in two dual meet wins against quality competition," head coach Nathan Owens said. "Lots of swimmers stepped up big in many events, including a number of our women competing in events they may not normally swim. Our divers also had a great day, especially on 3 meter. The team is starting to look their best at just the right time!"

Junior Abby Gronholz won the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.43, while sophomore Lauren Fisher won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.30. Senior Ella DeFever added a first place finish in the 100 butterfly event with a time of 59.82. Sophomore Klair Bradley set the pace in the 200 breaststroke event with a time of 2:28.45 also.

The Mavericks also took first place in the 200 freestyle relay event as DeFever, senior Brooke Shell, sophomore Maci Boffeli and senior Elise Mishmash posted a time of 1:39.61.

Junior Sienne Sirek-Kreye took second in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:56.29, while Shell finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.55. Freshman Gretta Hanson posted a time of 2:15.42 in the 200 butterfly event to finish second, while senior Olivia Hudoba finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.87.

Minnesota State continues its season on Saturday, Jan. 27, as it hosts MSU Moorhead at Highland Poll. The dual is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
