Mavericks Fall in Overtime to St. Thomas

Mankato, Minn.  – Mack Byers' overtime goal lifted St. Thomas to a 3-2 victory over #13 Minnesota State Saturday night at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in downtown Mankato.
 
The loss dropped MSU's record to 18-10-1 overall, 13-7-1 in league play this season.
 
The Tommies opened the game with a power play goal at 5:34 of the first from Luc Laylin and would hold onto a 1-0 lead until the 12:40 mark of the third when senior defenseman Andy Carroll ignited the MCHSEC crowd of 4,814 with his third goal of the season. 
 
Just 72 seconds later, freshman Christian Fitzgerald scored a power play goal to put the Mavericks ahead 3-2. 
 
St. Thomas would tie the game at 17:31 of the second when Laylin scored on a 5-on-3 power play to tie the game and force overtime.
 
The two teams finish the home-and-home series Saturday at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights.  Game time is slated for 6:07 p.m.
