Mankato, Minn. --- No. 13 Minnesota State (7-1-3) dominated Southwest Minnesota (2-6-1) State by a final of 3-0 Friday afternoon at the Maverick All-Sports Dome.
The Mavericks jumped on the Mustangs early controlling the ball for the majority of the match. The Mavericks were able to execute their first offensive attack of the game in the fourth minute.
Sophomore
Avery Korsching finished a gorgeous passing sequence from sophomore
Addison Clarey and freshman
Maddix Archer giving the Mavericks their earliest lead of the season.
Clary added to the lead in the 49th minute and took advantage of an SMSU miscommunication in the offensive end scoring her third goal on the season.
Just 2:25 later, Korsching added her second goal of the match and team-leading fifth goal of the season. This was the sophomore forward's second multi-goal performance of the season seeing her point total climb to 11 on the season.
Senior
Mackenzie Rath picked up her seventh win and eight shutouts of the season. Rath is now only six shutouts away from matching
Molly McGough's (2011- 2014) single-season shutout record.
Head coach
Brian Bahl after the game: "We had great energy today. Our press was excellent, our work rate was special, and we were flying in our attack.
The quick combinations we played showed how dangerous we were on the dribble. The urgency and intensity we attacked with was the best I've seen from us so far this season. Our depth also provided us some great minutes."
The Mavericks are back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. as they travel to Winona State to take on the Warriors.
