#18 Minnesota State Looks to Regroup at Home Against Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State

MANKATO, Minn. --- No. 18 Minnesota State looks to rebound after a tough weekend on the road going 0-1-1 against Northern State and MSU Moorhead. The Mavericks will finish their regular season schedule in the Maverick All-Sports Dome as both games this weekend have been relocated due to inclement weather. 

Minnesota State will host Minnesota Crookston on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and Bemidji State on Sunday at 1 p.m. to close out the regular season. 

Last week, MSU traveled to Northern State and MSU Moorhead going 0-1-1 on the weekend. The Mavericks started the weekend in Aberdeen, S.D., settling for a 1-1 draw against Northern State. 

Sophomore Anna Van Wyngarden salvaged the match for MSU in the 86th minute of the contest scoring her fourth goal on the season. The Mavericks found little offense in Sunday's match with MSU Moorhead as the Mavericks were able to net one off 26 shot attempts. 

Freshman Maddix Archer scored MSU's lone goal on Sunday her first career penalty shot. Archer's goal count is now at four tying senior Allie Willaims and sophomore Anna Van Wyngarden for second most on the team. 

Minnesota State heads into this weekend with an overall record of 9-2-5. The Mavericks hold the second seed in the NSIC standings, just three points behind St. Cloud State which sits atop the standings with 28 points.

Facing UMC: Heading into the 16th matchup with Minnesota Crookston, the Mavericks are a perfect 15-0 against the Golden Eagles. UMC is the only NSIC team who has not recorded a win in the 2023 season going 0-15 on the year. Minnesota Crookston's last win came on October 7, 2022 against Upper Iowa University. The last win against a current NSIC opponent came against MSU Moorhead on September 17, 2021. 

In MSU's previous matchups with UMC, the Mavericks net 5.20 goals on average per match. MSU has outscored Minnesota Crookston 64-4 in their all-time history dating back to 2008.    

Scouting the Golden Eagles: UMC's offense has mustered only three goals this season with two coming from junior Brooklyn Fischbach. In goal, UMC relies on senior Abby Olsen. After seeing action in 14 matches, Olsen owns a 3.41 goals-against average and a .746 save percentage for a 0-13-0 record. Olsen leads the NSIC in saves per game with 9.64. 
  
Facing BSU: Heading into the 23rd matchup with Bemidji State, the Mavericks are 14-4-4 against the Beavers. BSU slots in at third on the NSIC standings with a 6-2-3 conference record and a 8-2-5 overall record. In MSU's previous matchups with BSU, the Mavericks net 3.14 goals on average per match.  MSU has outscored the Beavers 34-19 in their all-time history dating back to 2008.

Scouting the Beavers: The BSU offense is led by sophomore Katrina Barthelt who leads the team in goals (9) and points (20) this season. Barthelt owns 33% of the total points generated by Bemidji's offense as she is tied with Concordia St. Paul's Katie Anderson for most goals in the NSIC this season.  

In goal, junior Edie Frantzen has guarded the back line for the Beavers in all 15 games this season. She owns an NSIC second-best .600 goals against average and a .795 save percentage for an 8-2-5 record.
