#10 Minnesota State Travels to Northern State & MSU Moorhead for Conference Matchups

MANKATO, Minn. --- No. 10 Minnesota State will travel to Northern State and MSU Moorhead for its final regular season conference road matches. The Mavericks will take on NSU on Friday at 5:00 p.m. before its showdown in Moorhead, Minn., with the Dragons on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. 

Last week, MSU battled Sioux Falls and Wayne State notching two wins on the weekend. The Mavericks kicked off the weekend with a 3-0 win against USF at the Maverick All-Sports Dome. 

Sophomores Avery Korsching and Anna Van Wyngarden notched the game's first two scores in the opening 10 minutes setting the tone of the match. Junior Ashlyn Watt capped of the scoring on Friday with her second career goal in the 62nd minute.

Senior Allie Williams was responsible for the lone score in Sunday's match with WSC as she notched her seventh game-winning goal of her career in the 14th minute. 

Senior Libby Spangler collected her third NSIC Defensive Player of the Week honor. The senior defender led an MSU defensive which allowed only five shots on goal in two matches. Her efforts against Sioux Falls and Wayne State helped the Mavericks clinch their sixth straight shutout. 

Senior Mackenzie Rath earned her second nod for the NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week after registering a pair of shutouts while making five saves on the weekend. The Pierre, S.D., native leads the NSIC in shutouts (11), goals-against average (.150) and save percentage (.965). Her efforts this weekend resulted in her 34th career shutout to go along with her 39th career win. 

Minnesota State heads into this weekend with an overall record of 9-1-4. The Mavericks sit in second place in the NSIC standings, just one point behind St. Cloud State which sits atop the standings with 25 points.

Facing NSU: Heading into the 20th matchup with Northern State, the Mavericks are a dominant 16-1-2 against the Wolves. NSU has gone 5-1-4 in conference play owning a 6-3-4 overall record this season. The Wolves find themselves fourth in the conference standings with their only conference defeat coming at the hands of the St. Cloud State Huskies on Oct. 13. In MSU's previous matchups with NSU, the Mavericks net 2.11 goals on average per match. MSU has outscored Northern State 40-6 in their all-time history dating back to 2004.     

Scouting the Wolves: Northern State's offense is led by junior Megan Fastenau who is the current team leader in goals (5) and points (12) this season. In goal, NSU relies on junior Alexus Townsend. Starting all 13 games for the Wolves, Townsend owns a 0.95 goals-against average and a .774 save percentage for a 6-3-4 record.

Facing MSUM: Heading into the 21st matchup with MSU Moorhead, the Mavericks are 18-2-0. MSUM is tied with Minot State for 12th in the NSIC standings with a 1-5-4 conference record and a 2-8-4 overall record. In MSU's previous matchups with MSUM, the Mavericks net 2.11 goals on average per match.  MSU has outscored the Dragons 70-7 in their all-time history dating back to 1995. MSUM has not been able to find the back of the net against the Mavericks since 1999. The Mavericks own a 15-game shutout streak against the Dragons. 

Scouting the Dragons: The MSUM offense is led by seniors Tabea Czech and Ava Kieser who have combined for eight points through 14 matches. The duo owns 33 percent of the Dragons total points this season. In goal, senior Simone Lewald has guarded the back line for the Dragons through 12 games this season. She owns a .862 save percentage and a 1.08 goals-against average for a 2-6-4 record.
