#18 Minnesota State Goes Head-To-Head Against MSUM & NSU at The Pitch

MANKATO, Minn. ---#18 Minnesota State is set to host MSU Moorhead and Northern State as it continues NSIC play this weekend at The Pitch. Last week, MSU battled Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston going 1-0-1 on the week. The Mavericks opened the weekend in Bemidji as it battled the beavers. BSU had the lead for 89:53 until Jenny Vetter swooped in to save the Mavericks from suffering its first NSIC loss. In part-two of the weekend, Minnesota State travel to Crookston to take on the Golden Eagles. The Mavericks took care of business as seven different Mavericks found the net in Sunday's showdown. MSU will head into this weekend with an overall record of 5-1-1 and 3-0-1 against NSIC opponents.

Facing MSUM: Heading into the 20th matchup with MSUM, the Mavericks are 17-2 in its last 19 matchup against the Dragons. The Mavericks have not allowed a point to MSUM in the last 23 years. The Dragons last point against MSU came on Sep. 18th, 1999 in Moorhead. MSUM is coming off a disappointing 1-15-2 overall record in 2021 and has started 1-3-1 in 2022. In the previous match, the Mavericks took care of business beating MSUM 1-0 in Moorhead. Jenny Vetter led the way last go-around scoring the only goal of the match. Mackenzie Rath notched another shutout, however only needed to make one save to do so.

Scouting the Dragons: The MSUM offense is led by freshman Jensen Seidel who is off to a hot start with two goals on the season. Seidel had several accomplishment such as making the North Dakota All-state and Allconference in 2021, establishing herself as a threat throughout the NSIC. In goal, the dragons rely on its platoon made up of junior Simone Lewald and Freshman Quinn Carter combining for 450 minutes this season. The pair owns a .792 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average for a 1-3-1 record.

Facing NSU: The Mavericks come into this weekend with a lifetime 12-1 over the Wolves. Last season, NSU finished in the middle of the NCIS standings with a 7-6-5 overall record and a 6-4-5 record against divisional opponents. This season, the Northern State has started 4-2-1 with a record of 2-1-1 against divisional opponents. In the previous matchup, the Mavericks shutout NSU with goal coming from Tia Martin and Claire Cater. Clare Loungueville got the start last go-around as she picked up the shutout facing six shot and four saves.

Scouting the Wolves: Northern State's offense is lead by sophomore Megan Fastenau who has enjoyed a five point 2022 season thus far. The sophomore forward played a key role in last years' success finishing with a team high 17 points. In goal, Alexus Townsend has started all seven games for NSU accumulating 513 minutes on the season. Brainerd owns a terrific .931 save percentage and an immaculate 0.35 goals-against average for a 4-2-1 record this season.
