Mavericks Boast 3.37 GPA for Spring Semester

All 20 Teams Have at least 3.00 GPA

      Mankato, Minn. --– Minnesota State Director of Athletics Kevin Buisman announced today that the school's 659 student-athletes combined for a 3.37 grade point average during the 2022 spring semester - marking the second-best ever term GPA for Maverick Athletics.

The record remains the 3.66 mark in Spring 2020 – meaning this was the highest fall team GPA Minnesota State student-athletes have ever produced. 

Minnesota State's women's teams fashioned a 3.46 GPA over the course of the semester, while the men's teams combined for a 3.27 GPA and all told, 42% of Maverick student-athletes earned Dean's List recognition with 277 in total earning the distinction.

A total of 100 student-athletes earned perfect 4.0 GPA's, and all told, 77.2% of the student-athletes had at least a 3.00 GPA this semester.

Some academic highlights from the spring include:
  • Women's Basketball
    • 22st consecutive term with at least nine Dean's List honorees (9)
    • 24th consecutive term with at least a 3.35 GPA (3.38)
  • Women's Cross Country
    • 34th consecutive term with at least a 3.20 GPA (3.58)
    • Highest GPA since Spring 2020
    • 93.8% team members had at least a 3.00 GPA
  • Women's Golf
    • 16th-straight term with at least a 3.10 GPA (3.32)
    • Most Dean's List honorees (4) since Fall 2020
  • Women's Hockey
    • 3.47 GPA made it 15 consecutive terms with at least a 3.20 GPA, and seven in a row with at least a 3.40 GPA
    • Sixth-straight term reaching double-digit Dean's List honorees 10)
  • Women's Track & Field
    • The 3.28 GPA extended its streak of having at least a combined 3.00 GPA in each term since MSU converted to the semester system in 1997-98
    • Highest team GPA since Spring 2020
    • Eighth-consecutive term with at least 25 Dean's List honorees (27)
    • Led department with 13 perfect 4.0 GPA's.
  • Women's Soccer
    • 10th-consecutive semester with at least a 3.50 GPA (3.60)
    • 35th-straight term with double-digits Dean's List honorees (22)
  • Softball
    • 3.47 GPA was the 20th consecutive term with at least a 3.15 GPA
    • Seventh straight term reaching double-digits in Dean's List honorees (11)
    • 90% of roster achieved at least a 3.00 GPA
  • Women's Swimming & Diving
    • 3.49 GPA made it 13 straight terms with at least a 3.30 GPA, and was the second-highest GPA in program history (3.73 Spring 2020)
    • The 24 Dean's List honorees made it five consecutive semesters with at least 20 Dean's List recipients
    • Tied for the third-highest mark in program history with 12 perfect 4.00 GPA's
  • Women's Tennis
    • 3.32 GPA made it six of the past seven terms with at least a 3.20 GPA
  • Women's Volleyball
    • Department-high 3.75 GPA this semester
    • Extended streak to 22 consecutive terms with at least a 3.40 GPA
    • 92.9% of roster had at least a 3.00 GPA
  • Baseball
    • Third-highest GPA in program history at 3.42 (record is 3.54 GPA established in Spring 2020 and tied in Fall 2021)
    • Sixth-straight term with double-digit Dean's List honorees (16)
    • Also sixth-consecutive term with at least a 3.00 GPA
  • Men's Basketball
    • 3.27 GPA extended program-record streak of at least a 3.00 GPA to 10 straight semesters
    • Second-highest GPA in program history (3.58 in Spring 2020 is the record)
  • Men's Cross Country
    • 3.27 GPA makes it the 10th-consecutive term with at least a 3.25 GPA
  • Football
    • 3.14 GPA is the second-highest mark in program history (3.25 in Spring 2020 is the record)
    • 25 Dean's List honorees is also the highest mark for the team since the program-high mark of 31 in Spring 2020
  • Men's Golf
    • 3.31 GPA makes it three of the last four terms with at least a 3.30 GPA
  • Men's Hockey
    • Had highest men's GPA in the department this semester at 3.58
    • Second-highest GPA in program history (3.86 in Spring 2020)
    • 12th straight term with at least a 3.10 GPA
    • 15 Dean's List honorees most for the program since Spring 2020
  • Men's Track & Field
    • Second-highest GPA in program history (3.27), trailing only Spring 2020 (3.32)
    • Set program record with 24 Dean's List honorees
  • Men's Wrestling
    • 3.02 GPA means program has achieved at least a 3.00 GPA in 12 out of last 13 terms
