Mankato, Minn. --- Bemidji State got on the board first and never trailed in picking up a 4-1 win at 16
th-ranked in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action in Mankato, Minn., Friday night.
The Beavers led after the first 20 minutes of action on a goal that was scored at 19:01 when
Jakub Lewandowski converted on a chance after a turnover in the Minnesota State defensive zone.
The Mavericks knotted the score at 4:54 of the second on a goal from
Ondrej Pavel. Pavel took a cross-ice pass from defenseman
Steven Bellini and ripped a shot from the left dot past
Mattias Sholl for his third goal of the year. The Beavers responded on a shot from the left circle by
Jere Vaisanen that leaked through
Alex Tracy at the 10:40 mark and after two periods of action, BSU held a 2-1 lead.
The Beavers took a 3-1 lead on a power play goal by
Jackson Jutting at 2:57 of the third and then closed out the scoring in the game when
Adam Flammang tallied an empty-netter at 18:20.
Minnesota State outshot the Beavers 32-16 in the contest and freshman netminder
Alex Tracy, who finished with 12 saves in the game, now owns a 6-3-0 record on the season.
The last time the Mavericks, who lost twice to Ferris State Dec. 2-3, have been swept at home two times in a row was during the 2006-07 season. (5-4 and 8-5 losses to North Dakota Oct. 27-28, 2006 and 4-3 ot loss and 3-2 loss to Bemidji State Nov. 3-4, 2006).
Next action for Minnesota State (10-9-1 overall, 7-6-1 CCHA) is Jan. 6 and 7 when the Mavericks play a two-game league set at Northern Michigan.
