Mavericks Defeat Gusties and Pointers in Double Dual

MANKATO, Minn. — The Minnesota State women's swimming and diving team bested both Gustavus Adolphus and UW-Stevens Point in a double dual.

The Mavericks won a total of 16 events as they defeated the Gusties 238-79 and the Pointers 247-66.

MSU won both relay events on the day. The quartet of sophomore Abby Gronholz, freshman Megan Schultz, senior Nicole Beckman and sophomore Maija Carriveau won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.72. The team of junior Brooke Shell, junior Elise Mishmash, freshman Maci Boffeli and Carriveau won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.81.

In the diving events senior Ayla Taylor won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 266.95, while sophomore Sydney Hanson won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 265.40.

Freshman Lauren Fisher finished first in three events, including the 200 freestyle (1:59.59), the 200 IM (2:15.47) and the 500 freestyle (5:21.57).

Schultz won both the 100 breaststroke (1:07.45) and the 200 breaststroke (2:29.53), while Beckman took first in the 100 butterfly (1:00.32) and the 200 butterfly (2:20.83). Carriveau won two individual events also as she won the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.12 and the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.99.

Gronholz finished first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.15, while freshman Alexandra Gorecki won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:09.01. Sophomore Sienna Sirek Kreye won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:12.94 also.

Minnesota State continues its season on Friday as it takes part in the two-day Joann Andregg Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
