#14 Minnesota State Inches Closer to Securing Top Spot in NSIC With Win Over Mustangs, 5-0.

Mankato, Minn.--- #14 Minnesota State closed out the weekend with a dominate performance against Southwestern Minnesota State with a final score of 5-0. With the win today, the Mavericks now own a share of the NSIC regular season championship. It is MSU's sixth NSIC regular season championship and our first since 2017.
The Mavericks had a traditionally fast start with MSU controlling the ball for most of the match. Allie Williams got the scoring started at the 29' mark of the match after intercepting a pass in the Mustangs defensive zone.
Just four minutes after the Williams goal, Mali Seran received a pass for Avery Korsching and smoked her shot passed the SMSU goaltender to give the Mavericks a two-goal cushion heading into the second half.
Minnesota State had no intentions of letting up the pressure as Mallie Mathis delivered a gorgeous pass to the foot of Brynn Desens who put home the Mavericks third goal on the day. Desens was not done on the day as she added another tally in the 71st minute to increase the MSU lead to four. Desens would finish with a team high four goals on the weekend.
In the dying minutes of the match, Rachel Luedtke sent a fantastic shot from above the box finding the back of the net dealing the final blow to SMSU.
The Mavericks look to clinch the top spot in the NSIC on Thursday against Concordia St. Paul at 1:00p.m. in Mankato.
