MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Minnesota State women's soccer team found themselves back in the win column after defeating the Northwest Missouri Bearcats 1-0, Sunday.
Junior forward Jenny Vetter scored the Mavericks (2-1, 0-0 NSIC) game-winning marker in the 76th minute of Sunday's contest on a free kick from the top of the box that found the right-side of the goal. MSU held the 1-0 lead until the end to shutout the Bearcats (2-2, 0-0 MIAA).
Sophomore goalkeeper Mackenzie Rath recorded her second collegiate clean sheet in the Mavericks' victory. She made five saves in the contest. On the other end, Alexis Serna Castillo made three stops with one goal against.
In the match, the Bearcats outshot the Mavericks 13-8 and edged MSU 5-4 in shots on goal. The Mavericks led the Bearcats in corners, 8-4, and fouls, 9-5, during the match.
Next weekend, the Mavericks are back on the road to begin conference play at Wayne State, Friday at 1:00 p.m., before heading to Augustana, Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
