McKay Named Richter Finalist

    Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State junior Dryden McKay has been named one of the three finalists for the 2020-21 Richter Award, which goes to the top men's hockey goaltender in the nation.
 
A native of Downers Grove, Ill., McKay was recently named the WCHA Player of the Year and WCHA Goaltender of the Year for his efforts this season. He is also a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award.
 
McKay has been named the WCHA Goaltender of the Week three times this season and was the national goaltender of the month for January. McKay leads the nation in several categories this season including win percentage (.864), goals against average (1.40) and shutouts (9). He also ranks second in wins (19) and seventh in save percentage (.930). Named an All-American last year, McKay's 23 career shutouts ranks second all-time in NCAA history.
 
Joining McKay as finalists for this year's Richter Award are Spencer Knight from Boston College and Jack LaFontaine from Minnesota.
 
The eighth annual Richter Award will be presented in April during the NCAA Division I Frozen Four.
 
#5 Minnesota State continues its season this Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as it takes on Quinnipiac at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colo. Face-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (CST).
