Cade Borchardt scored in overtime to lift #1-rated Minnesota State to a 2-1 win over sixth-rated Minnesota Duluth in nonconference men's college hockey action Thursday in Mankato.
With tonight's victory, the Mavericks have now won their last six games and now stand 17-4-0 on the season.
Following a scoreless opening 20 minutes of action in which the Mavericks held a 7-6 advantage in shots, sophomore forward
Connor Gregga tallied his second goal of the season at 5:06 of the second period. Gregga cashed in on a rebound chance after
Ondrej Pavel's wraparound attempt was stopped by UMD netminder
Ryan Fanti.
It became a 1-1 game at 7:18 of the third period when UMD forward
Jesse Jacques wired a shot from between the dots over
Dryden McKay's left shoulder and after 20 minutes of action, the score stood 1-1.
Borchardt, streaking through the neutral zone, batted down a pass from
Brendan Furry before snapping a shot off the wing past Fanti for the game-winning goal at 2:38 of overtime. The goal is Borchardt's eighth of the year and his third game-winning goal of the season.

Dryden McKay, who stopped 26 shots in the game, now stands 17-3-0 for 2021-22.
The Mavericks and the Bulldogs play again Saturday in Duluth.
