The visiting Mavericks jumped out to a 1-0 first-period lead when
Ryan Sandelin picked up his ninth goal of the season after his backhander found the back of the net at 5:32. The goal is Sandelin's ninth of the season and ties him with
Nathan Smith for the team lead.
Freshman forward
Tanner Edwards picked up his first collegiate goal when he scored at the seven-minute mark of the second period in giving the Mavericks a 2-0 lead.
Lutz closed out scoring in the game with his seventh goal of the season coming at 5:35 of the third period after he scored off the rush by finishing off a nice pass from
Ondrej Pavel by beating Laker netminder
Ethan Langenegger with a shot over his right shoulder.
Senior defenseman
Wyatt Aamodt chipped in with two assists and had a +2 rating in the win.
McKay, who stopped five shots in upping his record to 12-3-0 for the season, has six shutouts on the season and extends his NCAA men's hockey shutouts career record to 30.
Minnesota State, which stands 12-4-0 for 2021-22 (8-2-0 CCHA), continues league action next weekend with Michigan Tech visiting Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center for a pair of games scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
