#3 Mavericks Skate Past St. Thomas 5-0

Mankato, Minn. ---   Minnesota State received goals from five different players and senior goaltender Dryden McKay stopped everything sent his way as the Mavericks picked up a 5-0 Central Collegiate Hockey Association victory at St. Thomas Saturday.

The Mavericks, who have now won five games in a row, outshot the host Tommies by a 33-9 margin in the contest.

Junior forward Cade Borchardt found a loose puck in front of the St. Thomas and cashed in for his sixth goal of the year at 8:25 of the opening period to give the visiting Mavericks a 1-0 lead.

It became a 2-0 Minnesota State lead at 1:39 of the second following a St. Thomas turnover in the neutral zone after Nathan Smith took a pass from Julian Napravnik and ripped shot over Peter Thome's right shoulder for his ninth goal of the season.  Sam Morton's deflection at 4:39 made it 3-0 Minnesota State and that's where the score stood after 40 minutes of action.

Junior forward Lucas Sowder connected on a shot from the left circle with the Mavericks on the power play at 2:38 of the third period before Ryan Sandelin closed out the scoring in the game at 11:04.

Smith has extended his point-scoring streak to 10 games with tonight's effort and leads the Mavericks in scoring with 9-13—22 on the season.

McKay upped his record to 11-3-0 with the victory and the shutout, his fifth of the year, extends his NCAA DI men's hockey career record to 29.

Minnesota State, which stands 11-3-0 for 2021-22 (7-1-0 CCHA), continues CCHA action next weekend with a pair of games at Lake Superior State.
