MANKATO, Minn. --- The No. 17 Minnesota State wrestling team fell 24-13 to the Augustana Vikings Friday night at Taylor Center.
 
With the loss, the Mavericks drop to 9-3 (5-2 NSIC), while the Vikings improve to 10-3 (6-1 NSIC).
 
Four Mavericks got their hand raised on the evening, including three by decision and one by major decision.
 
MSU dropped the first three matches to fall behind 12-0.
 
At 149 lbs., No. 3 Kyle Rathman got the Mavericks on the board with a 13-3 major decision victory over Jebben Keyes. Cooper Siebrecht then used a first-period takedown, a second-period escape, a third-period takedown and a riding time point to come out ahead 6-2 to make it 12-7.
 
MSU dropped the next two matches to fall behind 18-7. In the match of the night, Zach Johnston, who holds the No. 10 ranking at 174 lbs., was pitted against No. 8 Ben Kelvington. The two wrestlers traded escapes and takedowns and found themselves tied 4-4 late in the third period. Kelvington then took Johnston down to take a 6-4 lead. Johnston escaped to make it 6-5, but he failed to earn anymore points, falling 6-5.
 
Trevor Turriff and Matthew Blome then won by 12-6 and 3-1 decisions to cut the deficit to 18-13, but Max Villnow was pinned in the heavyweight match to give the Vikings a 24-13 win.
 
The Mavericks will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 15, when they host the Northern State Wolves at Taylor Center for Senior Day. Six senior student-athletes will be honored for their accomplishments as a Maverick. The dual is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
