Kansas City, Mo. --- #25 Minnesota State won its opening regular season match over Missouri Southern 6-0 on Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, Mo. Sophomore
Brynn Desens had a total of five points on the day with a goal and three assists.
Sophomore forward
Cassidy Joyce scored the first goal of the season in the second minute of the match as fellow sophomore forward
Brynn Desens fed the ball to the box. Desens collected another assist on the second goal in the 19th minute of the match as another sophomore forward,
Jenny Vetter, found the back of the net for the first time this season. Vetter wasted no time scoring her second goal of the season as senior defender
Taylor Kenealy gathered the assist on the goal in the 27th minute. Thirty seconds before the first half ended, freshman forward
Allie Williams scored her first collegiate goal of her career with the assist coming from junior forward
Molly Riley.
Two minutes into the second half, Desens added a goal to her two first half assists beating the goaltender one-on-one as senior forward
Dakota Wendell picked up the assist. Wendell turned around and joined the scoring festivities in the 59th minute as she headed in a corner kick from Desens for her third assist of the day.

Alexa Rabune collected her first shutout of the season as she collected four saves in the match.
The Mavericks outshot the Lions 26-8 on the day (13-4 on goal) and also bested MSSU in corner kicks having a 7-1 advantage.

Brian Bahl after the game said." The girls came out with a ton of energy at the beginning and continued it throughout the match. They executed early on, converting on opportunities and played with intensity the entire match."
The Mavericks (1-0-0) wrap up their nonconference schedule by hosting nonconference showcase weekend at The Pitch. Bemidji State and Grand Valley State will begin with the first match on Sept. 13 at 1:00 p.m., with Minnesota State and Central Missouri following at 4:00 p.m. BSU and UCM will then square off on Sept. 15 at 11:00 a.m., with MSU and GVSU wrapping up the weekend at 2:00 p.m. All four teams come into the season ranked in the top-25 poll with GVSU being No. 1, UCM at No.7, BSU at No. 18 and MSU being No. 25.
