8/23/2019 9:18:00 PM

La Crosse, Wis. --- Minnesota State soccer overpowered the Eagles of UW-La Crosse 4-0 on the road Friday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wis.

In the Mavericks' first meeting against an opponent this season, there was no signs of rust or hesitation on the way to the win. The scoring came from two individuals on the front line for MSU with sophomore Jenny Vetter, a native of Mankato, Minn., and the leading scorer from last season senior Dakota Wendell taking control of the game. Vetter ended the game with a hat trick scoring the first three goals and Wendell put the final goal in the back of the net.

Vetter also added an assist to her line making that a total of seven points for the game. Senior defender Taylor Kenealy, senior midfielder Alesha Duccini and sophomore forward Brynn Desens also added assists on the four goals scored throughout the game.

A trio of Maverick goaltenders combined for the shutout win against the Eagles on Friday night. Senior Alexa Rabune, Cedar Falls, Iowa native, played the first half, while freshmen Mackenzie Rath (native of Pierre, S.D.) and Ava Blackney (native of Denton, Texas) split the second half duties.

Minnesota State will return to action on Tuesday, Aug. 28 when Luther will come to Mankato, Minn. with play beginning at The Pitch at 5:00 p.m. The Mavericks will round out their preseason competition with a neutral site scrimmage against Northwest Missouri State on Aug. 31 in Ankeny, Iowa at 5:00 p.m.
