C. J. Suess has been selected
2017-18 AHCA/CCM West First Team All-America.
Suess becomes the seventh player from Minnesota State to be named a NCAA Division I men's hockey All-American, joining forwards
Grant Stevenson (2002-03 West Second Team),
Shane Joseph (2002-03 West Second Team),
David Backes (2005-06 West Second Team) and
Matt Leitner (2014-15 West First Team), along with defensemen
Zach Palmquist (2014-15 West Second Team) and
Daniel Brickley (2016-17 West Second Team).
A two-time team captain and this year's
Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Year, Suess
also was named the 2017-18 WCHA Offensive Player of the Year and was a 2017-18 All-WCHA First Team selection. A Top Ten Finalist for Hobey Baker Award, the Forest Lake, Minn., native had 22 goals and 21 assists for 43 points on the season (t-18th nationally) and ranked third in the nation with 521 face-off wins. He's currently tied for 12th nationally in goals (22) and is tied for 20th in plus/minus with a +18 rating.
As a senior in 2017-18, Suess led Minnesota State to a 29-10-1 record, a Western Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season championship, and an at large berth in the NCAA Division I men's hockey postseason tournament.
Selected in the fifth round, 129th overall, by Winnipeg in 2014 National Hockey League Draft, Suess signed with the Jets following the conclusion of the 2017-18 season and is currently playing with the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.
