Suess Tabbed 2017-18 WCHA Player of the Year

  Mankato, Minn.  --- In a vote of league coaches, Minnesota State senior forward C.J. Suess has been named the 2017-18 Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Year.

Named a top-ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Award yesterday, Suess has also been tabbed Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Year and is a member of the 2017-18 WCHA All-First Team. He became the first Maverick to capture the WCHA scoring title after he compiled 36 points on a league-best 19 goals (tied) and 17 assists in 28 conference games this season. The Forest Lake, Minn., native had a league-best plus-19 rating.

A two-time team captain, Suess leads Minnesota State in points (43) and goals with a career-high 22 markers. He stands as Minnesota State's active career scoring leader with 127 points on 57 goals and 70 assists. His 127 career points stand tied for fifth on the school's career scoring list during the DI-era. 

A 2014 National Hockey League draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets (fifth round, 129th overall), Suess currently ranks second in the nation with 509 face-off wins, is tied for 10th in goals (22), tied for 12th in points (43) and stands tied for 18th in plus/minus with a plus-18.
