SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- Minnesota State records its third consecutive shutout in a 2-0 win over Augustana on Friday afternoon at Morstad Field.
The Mavericks got the scoring started in the 9th minute of the contest and never looked back. Junior
Alesha Duccini gained possession of a loose ball in the box and was able to beat the Viking goaltender to the low, left corner of the goal. The goal was Duccini's fourth of the season and was the only goal scored in the half as the Mavericks took the 1-0 lead into halftime. MSU outshot AUGIE 10-7 (6-1 on goal) in the first half and junior
Alexa Rabune made the save on the only opportunity.
The Mavericks came out of the half looking to extend the lead and junior
Dakota Wendell did exactly that. In the 61st minute, for her 12th goal of the season, Wendell added to the Mavericks lead to make the score 2-0. Minnesota State applied enough pressure to keep Augustana away from good scoring opportunities and only allowed one shot on goal each half.
Overall, the Mavericks outshot the Vikings 17-10 (14-2 on goal) with Rabune picking up both saves and her ninth shutout of the season. Her counterpart, Claudia Puescher, made eight saves on ten opportunities.
Minnesota State (14-2-1, 12-1-1 NSIC) returns to The Pitch for senior day against Wayne State on Sunday for its last regular season match, starting at 1:00 p.m.
