Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State soccer played the University of Northern Iowa to a 2-2 Draw on Tuesday evening at The Pitch.
Minnesota State outscored Northern Iowa, an NCAA DI institution, 2-1 in the first 45:00 of play. After the Panthers took an early lead on a goal by Brynell Yount at the 8:19 mark, the Mavericks tied the match on a score by junior forward
Julia Zach at 21:21 and then took the lead on a goal off the foot of junior forward
Lauren Kizlik at 34:20.
After the intermission, Jordyn Rolli scored the match-tying goal for the Panthers at 75:32 and neither team scored again as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
As part of the exhibition, there was no overtime played. After regulation, the teams went straight into a shootout with UNI prevailing 5-1. All of the chosen shooters were allowed to take their attempts. Junior forward
Morgan Cottew was the lone Maverick to convert on an attempt in the shootout.

Taylor Kenealy and Cottew each tallied an assist for the Mavericks.
Kelsey Yarrow and Jamie Althiser each garnered an assist for Northern Iowa.
The Mavericks held a 21-14 advantage in shots, including a 7-4 edge in shots on goals. In the second half, Minnesota State attempted 12 shots compared to four by Northern Iowa.
Minnesota State returns to The Pitch for its Alumni Game on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. The Mavericks play their final two exhibition matches against NCAA DIII institutions St. Catherine and Gustavus Adolphus at 4:00 p.m., on Aug. 23 and at 5:00 p.m., on Aug. 25, respectively.
