CLERMONT, Fla. --- The Minnesota State softball team extended its win streak to seven games with victories over Georgian Court, 13-4, and Wilmington, 9-0.
In game one, the Mavericks dismantled Georgian Court, 13-4, in five innings. Junior pitcher
Libby Bemis earned her sixth win of the season after recording six strikeouts in four innings. Taylor Baloga picks up the loss after giving up seven hits over three innings.
Amber Kral continued to swing a hot bat with a two run RBI home run sending
McKenzie Paap home, 2-0. In the second inning, a
Carly Esselman RBI single up the middle allowed
Dana Mogren to add the games third run, 3-0.
In the third stanza, Kral connected on her sixth home run in five games -- eighth of season-- which was a two run RBI hit to stretch the edge to 5-0. Additionally, Minnesota State went on to add two more runs in the inning , 7-0.
In the fourth inning,
Samantha Buhmann delivered a two run RBI home run to center field -- first of the season -- increasing the score to 9-0. The Mavericks expanded lead into double digits in the fifth inning with four more runs, 13-0. The Lions made a late push with four runs of their own in the fifth inning to cut the deficit down to 13-4 but would not come any closer.
Three Mavericks recorded multiple hits: Kral (2), Esselman (2), and junior Alyssa Rickels (2).
In game two, Minnesota State shutout Wilmington, 9-0. Senior pitcher
Coley Ries pitched a complete game to earn her seventh win (7-1) with 17 strikeouts while giving up four hits. Danielle Bradley drops her second game of the season after pitching four innings and allowing nine hits.
Following two scoreless innings, Minnesota State struck first with two runs in the third inning highlighted by a
Jess Meidl RBI through the right side to send Paap home, 2-0. The Mavericks added three more runs in the fifth inning to make the score 5-0 following a Kral RBI sacrifice fly.
In the sixth inning, Rickels singled up the middle for an RBI increasing the advantage to 6-0. The Mavericks put the game out of reach in the seventh inning with three more runs after Esselman scored an unearned run, 9-0.
Minnesota State had six players register multiple hits in the win: Esselman (3), Paap (2), Meidl (2), Buhmann (2), Mogren (2), and Rickels (2).
Following today's games, the Mavericks move to 13-3 overall on the season. The Mavericks return to the diamond on Wednesday against Saint Anselm at 1:00 p.m., and Holy Family at 3:30 p.m.
