Fayette, Iowa --- No. 20 Minnesota State soccer scored two second-half goals to defeat Upper Iowa 2-1 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference road match on Friday.
Minnesota State (14-2-1, 12-1-1 NSIC) held an 8-3 edge in shots – including a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal – in the first half, but Upper Iowa (4-11-1, 4-9-1 NSIC) scored the only goal of the half to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Charlotte Ryan scored the Peacocks' goal in the eighth minute.
The Mavericks scored two second-half goals to secure the come-from-behind victory. Junior forward
Lauren Kizlik scored her fifth goal of the season to tie the match in the 74th minute. Junior midfielder
Maddy Burandt garnered the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute.
Alesha Duccini tallied an assist on the play.
Minnesota State outshot Upper Iowa 24-3, including 9-2 in shots on goal.
The Mavericks return to action against Winona State at the pitch on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Sunday is Senior Day for the Mavericks.
