Goalkeeper Alexa Rabune Makes Six Saves for Minnesota State

Kenosha, Wis. --- No. 8 Minnesota State women's soccer played to a scoreless draw in its season opening match at Wisconsin-Parkside at Wood Road Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.

Freshman Alexa Rabune, who played all 110 minutes in goal, recorded six saves for the Mavericks (0-0-1).

Minnesota State tallied 12 shots in the match with five on goal, while Wisconsin-Parkside (0-1-1) took 11 shots with six on target. Five Mavericks garnered two shots each: sophomore Morgan Cottew, senior Dana Savino, freshman Alesha Duccini, freshman Taylor Kenealy and junior Jenny Hoerter.

The Mavericks took one shot in the first half compared to three by the Rangers, but Minnesota State upped its offensive intensity -- outshooting Wisconsin-Parkside 10-4 in the second half and the first overtime period. In the second overtime, the Rangers garnered four shots and the Mavericks tallied one.

Duccini and Kenealy had scoring chances in the 60th and 80th minutes, respectively, but their shots were stopped by the Rangers' goalkeeper Adrianna Bratel, who recorded five saves on the afternoon.

The Mavericks came within inches of winning in the first overtime period at 92:38 when Hoerter hit the crossbar on a free kick. Sophomore Maddy Burandt tallied a shot on target -- Minnesota State's last of the match -- at 109:01, but Bratel made the stop.
