CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The Minnesota State women's soccer team opened its exhibition schedule with a 1-1 tie on the road against the University of Northern Iowa Tuesday evening.
The exhibition was played in three, 30-minute periods.
After a scoreless first period, both teams recorded a goal eight seconds apart. MSU freshman
Dakota Wendell put the Mavericks in front with an unassisted goal at the 45:14 mark, only to see UNI's Michelle Austin knot up the score with a break away goal at 45:22.
Both defenses held firm the rest of the way as the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
As a team, the Mavericks recorded seven shots on goal, compared to four by the Panthers. A trio of MSU goaltenders in freshman
Alexa Rabune, sophomore
Taylor Livermore and
Ryann Rydeen each played 30 minutes and combined to stop three shots on goal. UNI goaltender Whitney Blunt stopped six shots in 90 minutes as well.
The Mavericks continue their exhibition schedule on Saturday, August 27, as they host Gustavus Adolphus at 5:00 p.m.
