Mankato, Minn--- Minnesota State will begin their dual schedule Sunday when they host Truman State and Minot State at the Taylor Center. After competing in four tournaments to begin their season, the Mavericks will make a long awaited return to the Taylor Center to wrestle in their first two duals of the season. The Mavericks were 10-4 overall last season with a conference record of 6-2. At the Taylor Center, Minnesota State had a very strong showing in dual competitions posting a 5-1 record.
Last year the Mavericks traveled to North Dakota for their match against Minot State. In that competition Minnesota State came away with a 44-3 victory. Minot State finished last season with a dual record of 4-14 and have gotten off to a 1-2 start to the 2016-17 season with a win over Division II Simon Fraser University at the Argo Duals.
Truman State is 4-1 competing in dual competitions this season and will add four more tallies to their record when they compete in the Augustana Duals Saturday December 10.
Leading the Mavericks into the weekend will be seniors
Adam Cooling (Sr., 174 lbs.) and
Darick Vancura (Sr., 197 lbs.). Cooling and Vancura have both enjoyed successful starts to the 2016-17 season. Cooling has continued his success after an All-American finish last season. Currently Cooling has an 11-1 record and two first place finishes in tournaments this year. Vancura held a 9-5 dual record for the Mavericks in the 2015-16 season. Vancura has placed in the top six in each tournament that he has competed in this season, posting a 10-5 record.
The Taylor Center will host a neutral site match between Truman State and Minot State at noon on Sunday. The Mavericks will then take the mat against Truman State at 1 p.m. and against Minot State at 2 p.m.
