Mavericks Rout Augustana 4-0 for Third Straight Win

Morgan Cottew Leads Offense with Two Goals and One Assist

Sioux Falls, S.D. --- Sophomore Morgan Cottew scored twice, including the game-winning goal, to propel Minnesota State women's soccer to a 4-0 win over Augustana in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match on Sunday afternoon.

The Mavericks have won six of their last seven matches and three straight. 

Cottew scored her first goal of the match -- the game winner -- at 24:00 in the first half to put the Mavericks (7-3-1, 6-2-0 NSIC) up 1-0 over Augustana (7-4-1, 6-2-1 NSIC). Cottew struck again in the 36th minute -- for her team-leading ninth goal of the season -- putting Minnesota State up 2-0. She also recorded her fifth assist of the season in the match, which gave Cottew five points on the day and a team-high 23 points on the season. 

Senior Kiana Nickel and freshman Alesha Duccini also scored for Minnesota State. 

Nickel, who is sixth on the Mavericks' career points list with 94, scored her sixth goal of 2016 -- the 33rd of her collegiate career -- in the 55th minute. Nickel's goal was the fourth goal of the match for the Mavericks. She also recorded one assist -- the 28th of her career -- moving her into a tie with Emily Moris (2011-14) for third place on the Maverick's career assist list. Nickel is second on the team in points (17), tied for second in goals (6), and tied for the team lead in assists (5).

Duccini scored with a shot that deflected in off the post in the 54th minute. Duccini's goal -- her sixth of the season -- increased the Maverick advantage to 3-0. Duccini, who also garnered two assists on the day, has four assists and 16 points in 2016. She leads all Maverick freshmen in goals, assists and points. Duccini is also tied for second on the team in goals with Nickel and is third in assists and points.   

The Minnesota State defense held the Viking offense to seven shots, including three on goal. The Maverick offense took 28 shots -- 12 on target. 

Freshman Alexa Rabune (4-3-1) made three saves to earn the shutout victory. It is Rabune's fourth shutout of the season.

Taylor Machacek (7-4-1) made four saves in goal for Augustana.

The Mavericks return to action at NSIC foe Concordia-St. Paul on Wednesday night.
