Winona, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's soccer defeated Winona State 3-0 on Friday night.
Junior midfielder
Jenny Hoerter scored the game-winning goal for Minnesota State (12-3-2, 11-2-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) at 1:27. Hoerter, who has scored game-winning goals in two straight games, has five goals and three assists for 13 points on the season. Senior midfielderÂ
Dana Savino recorded an assist -- her fourth of the season and the 14th of her Maverick career -- on Hoerter's goal.
Sophomore forward
Morgan Cottew, who leads the Mavericks in goals (13) and points (31), scored twice on the evening for her second multi-goal match of the season. Cottew's first goal, assisted by sophomore defender
Abby Hausken, came at 16:46. Cottew collected her second goal of the evening at 54:00, with Hoerter assisting on the score.
Hausken's assist -- her third of the season -- gives her 10 career points. Â
The Maverick defense was dominant -- holding the Winona State (7-9-1, 4-9-1 NSIC) offense to two shot attempts and one shot on goal. In comparison, the Maverick offense launched 16 shots, including nine on target.Â
Freshman goalkeeper
Ryann Rydeen (4-0-0) made one save to earn her fourth shutout of the season. Maverick goalkeepers have combined for 12 shutouts on the campaign. Â Â Â Â
Rachel Oleson (2-5-0) made six saves in goal for Winona State.
The Mavericks return to action against Upper Iowa at 1:00 p.m., on Sunday at The Pitch. Senior Day festivities will be held prior to the match.Â
