Burandt and Wendell Lead Mavericks to Fifth Straight Win

Minnesota State Has Won Eight of its Last 10 Matches

Moorhead, Minn. --- Sophomore Maddy Burandt and freshman Dakota Wendell scored their first goals of the season to propel Minnesota State women's soccer to a 2-0 win over MSU Moorhead in a conference match on Saturday afternoon.

Minnesota State (9-3-1, 8-2-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference), which has won eight of its last 10 matches and five in a row, took a 1-0 lead over MSU Moorhead (3-9-0, 2-8-0 NSIC) when Burandt scored her first goal of the season -- the second of her collegiate career -- in the 18th minute. Burandt's goal was assisted by freshmen Alesha Duccini and Taylor Kenealy.

The Mavericks outshot the Dragons 15-1 in the first half -- 28-2 for the match.

After halftime, Wendell increased the Maverick lead to 2-0 with her first-career goal in the 79th minute. Wendell, whose goal was unassisted, has one goal and one assist for three points in her rookie campaign.

Minnesota State's defense did the rest -- holding the Dragons to two shots on the day -- as the Mavericks cruised to the 2-0 victory.

Sophomore Taylor Livermore (2-0-0) made two saves to record her second shutout victory of the season.

Reagan VonBerge (2-9-0), who started in goal for the Dragons, made 13 saves in 80:31. Corina Edgington made one save in relief of VonBerge.

The Mavericks return to action at NSIC foe Northern State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
