Off the Hop:    Minnesota State (2-0-0 overall, 2-0-0 WCHA) hosts St. Cloud State (0-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) in home nonconference action this weekend. The 14th-rated Mavericks and #7 SCSU play in Mankato at Verizon Wireless Center (4,832) Friday (7:07 p.m.) and Saturday (7:07 p.m.).

About the MSU-SCSU Series:   Minnesota State leads the all-time series by a 69-53-10 margin. In a rivalry that dates back to the 1969-70 season, the 132 games between the two schools makes the Huskies Minnesota State's most often-played opponent.

Minnesota State Most Recently:  The Mavericks opened the 2016-17 campaign with a two-game home league sweep over Michigan Tech last weekend.  The Mavericks, who posted 3-1 and 4-0 victories over the Huskies, are now 21-23-4 all-time in season-opening contests.

SCSU Most Recently:  The games in Mankato this weekend are the season-opening games for St. Cloud State, which is coming off a year where it crafted a 31-9-1 mark and owned a 17-6-1 record in National Collegiate Hockey Conference contests. The Huskies are led by head coach Bob Motzko, who stands 235-164-42 as a college head coach and is in his 12th year as head coach at St. Cloud State.

Minnesota State All-Time:  The Minnesota State men's hockey program, begun in 1969-70, completed its 47th year of competition last year.  The Mavericks are in their 21st year as members of NCAA Division I and in their 18th season as members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The Mavericks sport an all-time record of 838-622-148 (.567). 

On Tap:  Following the series vs. Michigan Tech this weekend, the Mavericks will face the University of Alaska in a pair of Western Collegiate Hockey Association contests in Fairbanks Oct. 21-22.
