Mankato, Minn. - The Minnesota State softball team was unable to pick up a win on the final day of UAM 8-State Classic. The Mavericks fell to Missouri-St. Louis by the score of 10-2 in six innings, before the Purple and Gold lost to Arkansas Tech, 11-2, in five innings
Minnesota State's record now stands at 0-4 overall.
The Mavericks began the day with a 10-2 loss to the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons in six innings.
Hannah Perryman (3-1) earned the win for the Tritons as she threw 5.1 innings, while allowing just two runs, one earned. Sophomore
Coley Ries (0-2) took the loss as she gave up 10 runs through 5.1 innings, while striking out seven batters.
Madison Zbaraschuk got the scoring going with a solo home run in the second inning only to see the Mavericks knot up the score at one as the Mavericks scored a run on an infield error.
The Tritons responded right away in the bottom of the third Katie Rutledge, Brianna Butler and Zbaraschuk each posted a solo home run in the inning to give UMSL the 4-1 lead.
MSU managed to pull within two of the Tritons at 4-2 after sophomore
Dana Mogren plated sophomore
Ashley Thell with an RBI single, but Missouri-St. Louis responded with a six-run bottom of the sixth to secure the 10-2 victory.
Mogren accounted for two of MSU's three hits, while Thell tallied the other. Thell also scored a run.
In the second game of the day, the Mavericks would fall to Arkansas Tech, by the score of 11-2 in five innings.
Victoria Huie (2-0) got the win for the Golden Suns as she threw a complete game and six strikeouts, while allowing just two runs, six hits and three walks. Ries (0-3) took the loss for the Mavericks after giving up four runs, seven hits and two walks.
The Golden Suns would get their scoring going in the second inning with two runs, before bursting out for five more runs in the next inning. Capped off by a pair of two RBI-singles by Shanna Davidson and Courtney Colunga. Then in the fourth inning for ATU, Ashley Savage would blast a home run to make the score 9-0.
In the next top half of the inning, MSU would finally push across two runs as junior
Abby Whritenour recorded an RBI and freshman
Kara Lattery posted an RBI off a sac fly.
In the bottom half of the fifth, ATU's Jalissa Gum would hit a two-run homer to end the game at 11-2.
Thell went 2-for-3 in the game, while junior
Karli DesLauriers and sophomore
Mandi Mauch each tallied one hit and one run in the loss.
The Mavericks scheduled games for Sunday have been canceled due to impending inclement weather.
The Mavericks will return to action on Thursday, as they will take part in the NSIC/MIAA Crossover, in St. Cloud, Minn. MSU will take on Central Missouri at 10 a.m., before setting its sights on Missouri Western State at 5 p.m.
