Box Score Moorhead, Minn. --- The Minnesota State soccer team scored just 31 seconds into Saturday afternooon's 5-0 win vs. Minnesota State- Moorhead and didn't look back.
With the win, Minnesota State increases its record to 8-1-0 on the season and 6-0-0 in the Northern Sun. After the match, MSU-M's' record drops to 1-4-3 on the season and 1-4-1 against NSIC competition.
Just 31 seconds into the match on Saturday afternoon, junior Dana Savino (Vanais Heights, Minn.) punched her second goal of the year in off of a pass from sophomore Lexi Pszanka (Rapid City, S. D.) and a throw in by senior Korey Kronforst (Cary, Ill.) to set the tone for Minnesota State. The Mavericks tallied three more goals throughout the half with Kronforst drilling two home and junior Kiana Nickel (Wayzata, Minn.) netting her team leading eighth goal of the season. Savino and Pszanka also added another assist each to close out the half.
At the end of the first half, Senior goalkeeper Lauren Hoeppner (Lakeville, Minn.) had three saves while Dragons goalkeeper Corina Edgington recorded eight stops on 12 Maverick shots on goal. Minnesota State also held a 3-1 advantage in corners after the first period.
The second half of play featured less action as Minnesota State netted just one goal in the final 45 minutes. Early on, just five minutes and 42 seconds into the second half to be exact, Kronforst caught a ball that was played in by freshman Bri Lindstrom (Apple Valley, Minn) who took a pass from fellow freshman Maddie Ralely (Hudson, Wis.) and blasted the ball past Edgington for her first-career goal. Lindstrom's goal cemented the victory for the Mavericks as they claimed their fifth consecutive shutout.
Minnesota State outshot the Dragons 32-16 and held a 20-6 stance in shots on goal. The Mavericks also carried a 6-2 mark over MSU-Moorhead in corners at the end of the match.
Hoeppner tallied her seventh shutout of the season and increased her record to 8-1-0. With the six saves in the game, the Lakeville, Minn., native has now saved the last 18 shots shes faced.
MSU will take action next at they travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to matchup vs. the Wolves of Northern State at 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
