Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State soccer team was tested this afternoon in a physically played match with NSIC conference foe, Minot State.
With the tie, Minnesota State moves its record to 9-1-1 on the season and 7-0-1 in the Northern Sun. After the match, Minot State's record stays even with MSU at 9-0-1 on the season and 7-0-1 against NSIC competition.
The No. 6 rated Mavericks faced a gritty offense in Minot State, a team who has out scored their opponents by a margin of 22-8 on the season. Senior
Korey Kronforst scored her team-leading 10th goal on the season, cutting her shot at the record of goals against NSIC competition to five. At the 22:56 mark of the first half, freshman
Bri Lindstrom lined up a corner kick on the right side of the Maverick offensive zone. The ball sailed through the air to the front of the goal when Kronforst made a header shot, hitting the back of the twine. Then, just under five minutes later, Minot State's Ashley Franco placed a free kick in a perfect spot in the middle of the box, where Beaver forward Kelli Creese was able to put just enough of a deflection on the ball to get by Maverick goalkeeper

At the end of the first half, Minot State accumulated two shots on goal to MSU's zero. Minnesota State held an advantage in corner kicks through the first 45 minutes of action by a mark of 5-0 and a 7-3 advantage shot attempts. Beaver goalkeeper Celene Johnson mad a total of two saves through the first half of play.
In the second half and of the contest, neither team was able to beat their opposing goaltender. Though the rest of the game didn't see any scoring action, there was a lot of physical game play that took place. The first half of match saw a combined six fouls between the two teams, and the rest of the game, all 85 minutes (including two-10 minute over-time periods), saw a combined 12 fouls. The final foul count after the match ended with Minnesota State acquiring 12 with Minot State taking six.
By the time the final horn sounded, Minnesota State held an advantage in shot attempts with 21 compared to the Beavers' 14. Though the Beavers were ousted in shot attempts, they took advantage on more of their shots landing six on goal with the Mavericks totaling five. Hoeppner tallied five saves throughout the match including two in overtime play while Beaver goalkeeper Johnson recorded four in the match.
Four Mavericks played all 110 minutes of the game including

Abby Nordeen and Hoeppner while
Maddy Burandt accumulated 96. Minot State had the same mind-set as six player had tallied more than 100 minutes over the course of the contest.
Hoeppner moves her record to 9-1-1 on the season. With five saves in the game, the Lakeville, Minn., native has now saved the last 26 of 28 shots she has faced.
MSU will take action next, tomorrow afternoon as they faceoff against U-Mary at The Pitch. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
