MANKATO, Minn. – The Mavericks used a strong finish to secure its first win in conference action over Minot State, 39-7. MSU won the last six matches.
It only took
Da'Wayne Robertson (Jr., 125 lbs. 23-7) 2:10 to pin his opponent and gave MSU a 6-0 lead to start off the match.
Briar Adams (Fr., 133 lbs. 3-5) lost his weight class by a major decision of 15-1 by Jason Huger.
Alphonso Vruno(Jr., 141 lbs. 17-7) got MSU back up to a six point lead with his own major decision win of 16-4.
Mitchell Hartwig (So., 149 lbs. 0-1) would lose in sudden victory by a decision win of 5-3. That was MSU's last loss of the night.
Adam Cooling (So., 157 lbs. 11-4) secured a major decision win for him self with a take down with nine seconds left. He won 12-2. #4 rated
Cody Quinn (Sr., 165 lbs. 7-3) beat Ricard Avakovs for the second year in a row by a tech fall, 17-2.
Darick Vancura (So., 174 lbs. 12-9) won by a forfeit and
Corey Abernathy (Fr., 184 lbs. 11-5) won by a tech fall of 16-1 at the 5:35 mark.
Scott VanDeLoo (Jr., 184 lbs. 17-7) got MSU another six points with the fastest fall of the night at 1:11.
The heavy weight match came down to the team leaders in wins.
Malcolm Allen (Jr., 285 lbs. 24-8) beat Mitchell Eull by a decision win of 8-3.
MSU travels up to MSU Moorhead Saturday for a 4 p.m. dual.
