Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- No. 15 Minnesota State edged out Southwestern Oklahoma State University 1-0 in its season opener on Friday in a game that had temperatures in the 90's and a 46 minute weather delay.
In the first half the Mavericks outshot the Bulldogs 11-1, but neither team could get on the scoreboard during the first 45 minutes of play. MSU had six shots on goal compared to SWOSU's one shot on goal and were led by senior
Emily Moris who had two shots on goal.
The game would remain scoreless until the 77th minute when Moris converted a header off a cross from senior
Sydney Temple to give MSU the 1-0 advantage. That goal would prove to be the game winner as the Bronchos were unable to push one through during the final minutes of play.
Senior
Molly McGough recorded one save for the Mavericks and now has 32 career shutouts.
The Mavericks outshot the Bronchos 22-2 and were led by Moris and sophomore
Kianna Nickel who each had five shots. MSU also had an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks.
MSU will continue action on Sunday as they take on the Bronchos from the University of Central Oklahoma at 1 p.m.
