Box Score MARSHALL, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's soccer team produced its fifth shutout of the season Sunday to defeat Southwest Minnesota State 2-0.
With the win, the second-rated Mavericks move to 6-0-0 and 3-0-0 in the NSIC while the Mustangs fall to 3-3-0 and 2-1-0 in league play.
The Mavericks had a scoring chance in the 10th minute as sophomore
Dana Savino took a shot that hit the right post and the Mustangs were able to clear it. Both defenses played very well in the first half as MSU had just five shots while SMSU had four with the score at 0-0 going into the intermission.
MSU did capitilze on its next scoring chance in the 62nd minute. Savino kicked a pass up to sophomore
Kiana Nickel who found a wide open junior
Korey Kronforst in front of the net putting the Mavericks up 1-0. Nickel would score a goal of her own in the 85th minute off a header from senior
Rebecca Pederson to ensure a Maverick victory.
MSU outshot SMSU 15-5 and had a 7-3 adavantage on corner kicks.

Lauren Hoeppner picked up her first win of the season in goal for the Mavericks making three saves on the afternoon.
The Mavericks will return home on Friday to take on Bemidji State at The Pitch. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
