No. 7 Minnesota State Defeats Concordia-St Paul in Home Opener

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- Seventh-rated Minnesota State handed Concordia-St. Paul it's second loss of the season on Thursday behind sophomore Dana Savino's first two goals of the season.

With the win MSU moves to 3-0-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in league play while CU falls to 0-2-0 and 0-1-0 in the NSIC.

In the first half neither team could put together very many scoring opportunities as the Mavericks outshot the Golden Bears 13-4, but MSU only had 3 shots on goal compared to CU's 1.

It didn't take long for the Mavericks to get the scoring going in the second half. Savino scored just 24 seconds into the half firing a shot into the left side of the net for her first goal of the season.

MSU would add another goal in the 58th minute. The Golden Bears attempted to kick the ball back to their own goalie but junior Korey Kronforst got to it first and kicked it past CU goalkeeper Emma Gartner putting the Mavericks up 2-0.

Savino added the third and final goal of the match in the 60th minute, scooting it past the outstretched hands of CU's goaltender giving the Mavericks the 3-0 victory.

Senior Molly McGough moves to 3-0-0 on the season and produced her 34th career shutout tallying one save on the evening.

MSU outshot the Golden Bears 25-4 and held the advantage in corner kicks totaling 14 compared to 4 for CU.

The Mavericks will have one of their toughest tests of the season on Sunday as they host No. 1 Grand Valley State at 12 p.m. at The Pitch.
