MARSHALL, Minn. – Minnesota State wrestling lost a tough dual to Southwest Minnesota State Saturday in Marshall by a score of 31-9.
The Mavericks won three out of ten matches on the day.
MSU, which has lost its last seven matches, now stand 2-7 overall and 2-3 in NSIC action. SMSU improves to 10-4 overall and owns a 4-1 conference mark.
Minnesota State got off to a good start with a 4-2 sudden victory win by
Trevor Schultz (Fr., 125 lbs.), but SMSU started to pull away with wins in two out of the next three matches. MSU's next win occurred in the 157 lbs. weight class when
Adam Cooling (Fr., 157 lbs.) claimed an 8-4 decision win over Codie Lane. Cooling extended his winning streak to six matches with today's victory.
SMSU won the next three matches before
Brendan Eichmann (Sr., 197 lbs.) won the 197-weight class with a 5-1 decision win over Micah Larson.
Corby Running (Sr., 285 lbs.) closed out the dual with a 3-1 loss.
Minnesota State's next dual is at #7 Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa. The dual is slated for 7 p.m. on Feb. 7
th.
