Prpich’s Game-Winner in the 70th Minute Pushes Maverick Past Upper Iowa

MANKATO, Minn. --- The No. 1 rated Minnesota State women's soccer team defeated Upper Iowa University 1-0 to advance to the championship game of the NSIC/US Bank Tournament.

With the win Minnesota State stays undefeated and improves to 20-0-0 overall while the Peacocks record falls to 11-7-1.

The Mavericks and Peacocks played the first half scoreless with both teams having nine shots. Junior Korey Kronforst had a scoring chance 15 minutes into the match from just on top of the box that went just wide. The Peacocks came back with a scoring chance of their own later in the first half as they hit the post but the Mavericks defense was able to clear it without any damage done.

Both teams would battle back in forth in the second half but the Mavericks were finally able to get one past UIU goalkeeper Kaitlyn Emanuel in the 70th minute. Junior Emily Erickson kicked one into the box and sophomore Karissa Prpich was able to control the ball and sneak it into the right side for her first goal of the season. The Mavericks defense was able to shut down the Peacocks and produce their fourteenth shutout of the season.

Senior Molly McGough made four saves on the afternoon for her tenth shutout on the year. Her record improves to a perfect 18-0-0 on the year.

As a team the MSU outshot UIU 16-13 and had eight shots on goal compared to four for the Peacocks.

Minnesota State advance to the championship game of the NSIC/US Bank Tournament and will face Winona State. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Mankato at The Pitch.
